David Johnson

Fractional CTO and Engineering Coach

He/Him

I have been a designer, software engineer, and creative technologist since 1997. My journey began in 1996, when I discovered HTML — before CSS or ASP were even a thing.

Over the years I have built and led projects for some of Australia’s biggest companies, including but not limited to:

Telstra, Australia Post, Ford, 7-Eleven, Hotel Intercontinental, Nissan, ANZ, The Australian Federal Government, Nestle, Kraft, Hyundai, Volvo, Zimmerman, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Alannah Hill, BIG4, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, Bupa, and Bared Footwear.

I was an entrepreneur from an early age, having run my own Series A startup from 1998–2000 — a studio that pioneered the concept of software as a service with our e-mail platform eBrochure, the world’s first email delivery platform that supported embedded video, and a Flash-based presentation tool that came 4 years before Keynote and 7 years before Google Slides.

More recently I was co-founder and CTO of Trueme, a platform for single parents to find love, friendship, and advice.

My technology experience is vast, ranging from .NET to Node, Typescript, React, Java, and many others. I’m also well versed in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

I am a strong advocate for continuous improvement, not just in my professional life but my personal life as well. I embrace continuous delivery methodologies over other “agile” frameworks, as it is by far the best way to deliver software quickly and safely.
